SIGRA Climate Adaptation Projects
Kumbungu District relies heavily on the shea industry, a key income source for rural women. But climate change, deforestation, and traditional processing methods have made it difficult for women to fully benefit. Collecting nuts is labor-intensive, firewood poses health and environmental risks, and limited equipment and market access reduce income potential. SIGRA is supporting the creation of the Kpegu Shea Processing Center a women-led, community-owned facility that will produce organic shea butter for local and international markets as part of the first of three years of grants.
