SIGRA GRANT
PROJECTS

The SIGRA Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, provides annual grants to local governments to implement inclusive climate projects. Through its first cycle of grants, SIGRA worked with five partner MMDAs in the Volta and Northern Regions to deliver gender-responsive climate adaptation projects that improve water security, support dry-season farming, strengthen women’s livelihoods, and build local systems for community ownership and sustainability.

Completed First-Cycle Grant Projects

The projects were informed by district Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessments, gender analysis, community consultations and MMDA planning processes. They also demonstrate SIGRA’s wider approach: pairing infrastructure with technical assistance, gender-responsive planning, local accountability and community management arrangements.

SIGRA’s climate adaptation grant projects show how local governments can move from planning to implementation when climate evidence, gender analysis and community priorities are brought together. By supporting District Assemblies to design, finance, implement and monitor locally relevant adaptation investments, SIGRA is helping strengthen resilience for women, girls and other groups most affected by climate change.
