Solar-Powered Boreholes Bringing Reliable Water Closer to Communities
In Mion District, SIGRA supported the mechanization of three existing boreholes with solar power in Sang, Jimli and DC Kura. The systems are now operational and are improving access to safe and reliable water in communities where prolonged dry seasons, high temperatures and erratic rainfall have deepened water insecurity.
The project is helping reduce the distance and time women and girls spend fetching water, while supporting more reliable household water access for 3,500 residents. Community Water Management Committees were established and trained to support revenue collection, operations, maintenance and long-term sustainability.
