SIGRA Climate Adaptation Projects
Anloga District, along Ghana’s southeastern coast, is facing worsening climate impacts. Coastal flooding, tidal waves, and rising sea levels have displaced communities like Agorkedzi-Fuveme and disrupted fishing livelihoods. Inland areas such as Agbledomi face water shortages due to salinity and prolonged dry seasons. Women and girls are most affected, with limited livelihood options and the added burden of water collection. To address these challenges, SIGRA is supporting two gender-responsive adaptation projects in the district as part of the first three years of grants
Agorkedzi-Fuveme Community Aquaculture Initiative
Location:
Agorkedzi-Fuveme
Potential Beneficiaries:
1,000 people, including displaced households, women, and youth
Focus:
Climate-resilient aquaculture to restore livelihoods and build coastal resilience
Agbledomi Safe Water Access and Storage Initiative
Location:
Alakope, Amemeliokope, and Tsorgbakope (Agbledomi area)
Potential Beneficiaries:
1,300 direct beneficiaries; ~3,000 total community members
Focus:
Improving access to safe water through piped water extensions and community-managed storage systems.
