First cycle of SIGRA grant projects completed across five partner districts

Climate adaptation becomes real when communities can see it, use it and sustain it.

Through SIGRA’s first cycle of grants, five partner District Assemblies in the Northern and Volta regions have completed gender-responsive climate adaptation projects reaching 6,970 people. These include solar-powered boreholes in Mion (Sang, Jimli and DC Kura) and Akatsi North (Atanve, Nyitawuta and Metsrikasa); a safe water extension in Alakope, Amemeliokope and Tsorgbakope in the Agbledomi area of Anloga District; solar-powered irrigation at Wulensi and Nakpayili in Nanumba South; and a shea processing centre at Kpegu, serving women from Kpegu, Zangbalun-Kukuo and Kprumi in Kumbungu District.

The projects are improving access to safe water, making dry-season farming possible and strengthening women’s livelihoods. Each is now run by a trained community management committee, so the systems keep working long after construction ends.
