Canadian High Commissioner visits SIGRA project sites in Mion and Kumbungu

Following her visit to the Sang solar-powered borehole in Mion District on 6 May, H.E. Myriam Montrat, High Commissioner of Canada to Ghana, Togo and Sierra Leone, continued her tour of SIGRA-supported project sites with a stop at the Kpegu Shea Processing Centre in Kumbungu District on 7 May. She was accompanied by the Head of Development and Senior Development Officer at Global Affairs Canada.

SIGRA, in partnership with the Kumbungu District Assembly, is constructing the Shea Processing Centre to help women move beyond raw shea production into improved processing, value addition and income generation. The initiative directly targets 97 beneficiaries, including 90 women, from Kpegu, Zangbalun-Kukuo and Kprumi.

Through the first phase of support, key infrastructure works have been completed, processing equipment procured, and beneficiaries organised into Village Savings and Loans Associations to strengthen financial literacy and group management.

The High Commissioner commended the women’s commitment and highlighted the importance of investing in women and young people, while ensuring community infrastructure is sustained for future generations.
